Chinese New Years

Chinese New Year

The 3rd graders in Mr. Rutkowski’s and Mrs. Schultz’s classes had the opportunity to learn about the Chinese culture and traditions. On Wednesday, February 19, Mrs. Zalevsky (Brody’s mom) was kind enough to come into the school and teach both classes about how her family celebrates Chinese New Year. She shared some background information on why Chinese New Year is celebrated on a different day each year (the lunar calendar), the history of the dragon, why the color red is such an important color in their clothing and decorations, and also allowed the children to sample different foods that are eaten during the Chinese New Year celebration. Brody even taught the boys and girls how to write the Chinese symbol for mouse!! The kids had such a great time, and they learned a lot about how Chinese New Year is celebrated!
